There are new cybersecurity companies starting up every day.

As in, every... day... of... the... week.

But when Google's parent company, Alphabet, launches a cybersecurity company, you have to wonder if there is disruption ahead.

The company was incubated at Alphabet's X, the Moonshot Factory, where they aim to take moonshots when most people and companies already assume some smart people are "working on" a particular problem.

Astro Teller, "Captain of Moonshots," says it is time to take that approach to fight cyber hacks and attacks.

"The digital world needs an 'immune system,'" he wrote in a post announcing the launch of the new security company.

"The reality for most companies today when it comes to cybersecurity is reactive: find and clean up the damage. The real moonshot, which is still several years away, is predicting and deflecting cyber attacks before they infiltrate an organization’s network. Solving this problem isn’t simply a question of time and trusting that we’ll catch up eventually. We have to start fresh and look at the problem from new angles."

The new company is called Chronicle, and CEO Stephen Gillett says it will have two parts: "A new cybersecurity intelligence and analytics platform that we hope can help enterprises better manage and understand their own security-related data; and VirusTotal, a malware intelligence service acquired by Google in 2012 which will continue to operate as it has for the last few years."

The company claims it is already doing some POC related work for Fortune 500 companies.

We know that the new security startup was launched by Moonshot, but will it mean a moonshot for the way we battle bad actors in cyberspace?

Stay tuned, InfoSec fans, stay tuned.
