Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.

Which raises the following question: Did you hear about the Dark Web drug lord, arrested after his international flight landed in Atlanta?

He was on his way to a world beard growing championship in Texas, and that's how the feds nabbed him. It seems he is quite proud of his beard.

We reported on this months ago.

Update: Now, 36-year-old Gal Vallerius, known as “Oxymonster" on the Dark Web, has pleaded guilty to online crimes including the distribution of narcotics.

The U.S. Department of Justice says he originally started as a solo vendor, selling Oxycodone and Ritalin through the Dark Web marketplace called DreamMarket.

"Shortly thereafter, Dream Market employed the defendant who acted at times as an administrator and senior moderator.  In these positions, he played a role supporting the daily illicit transactions between buyers and vendors on Dream Market, such as the trafficking in narcotics, and the laundering of illicit proceeds using virtual currencies, Dream Market’s tumblers and the dark web."

Vallerius will be sentenced in the fall. In the meantime, check out Naked Security's write-up of his story.

Because it was more than his long, red beard that gave him away.
