Fifteen U.S. Senators have introduced a new elections cybersecurity bill into Congress.

Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) is often on the forefront of cybersecurity related issues. Here's what he is saying about the Protecting American Votes and Elections (PAVE) Act he is sponsoring:

“The Russian government interfered in American elections in 2016 and if we don't stop them, they and other governments are going to do it again.

The PAVE Act scraps insecure voting machines that are juicy targets for hackers and replaces them with reliable, secure hand-marked paper ballots.

It gives states the funding they need to defend their election systems and puts the Department of Homeland Security in charge of setting strong security standards for every federal election."

The act would require paper ballots which voters can verify and can be referenced in any recount or audit of electronic results.

The paper ballots would override the electronic results if there is a discrepancy.

Wyden, by the way, could not get traction with his proposal to jail CISOs, CROs, CPOs, and CEOs who are negligent at cybersecurity and privacy.
