We typed the words "Ponemon study" into Google, and the search engine found 243,000 results in .44 seconds.

Wow, that is quite a digital footprint.

But here’s a surprise: When you meet Larry Ponemon, the man behind the Ponemon Institute and each Ponemon study, he immediately puts you at ease because he is so humble.

You would never know he's a PhD that is leading the way on a large number of critical studies—research that is shaping the thoughts of IT and cybersecurity leaders around the globe.

At SecureWorld Twin Cities, in downtown Minneapolis, we watched U.S. Bank CISO Jason Witty interview Ponemon for the U.S. Bank podcast.

Listening in, it is apparent his knowledge runs deep and that he still has a passion for his research.

Speaking of research, we decided to do some of our own. And we went to the researcher himself for help on this one.

Who is Larry Ponemon? And how did he start the Ponemon Institute and become a researcher known around the world in information technology and cybersecurity circles?

"I'm just a hungry kid, a hungry kid in a candy store," he tells us, with a smile.

And this "kid" chews on data like it was some sort of sweet treat.
