This is a first for U.S. Cyber Command.

It held its first ever "Industry Day," during which cybersecurity vendors were told what the Department of Defense is looking for: a DEVOPS type model where concept to implementation is very short.

This is part of the rollout of new purchasing power from Congress that allows U.S. Cyber Command to sign its own contracts, up to $75 million per fiscal year, with no red tape.

“We cannot keep the United States safe into the future, especially in the rapidly changing domain of cyber, using a firehose approach. We have to have the precision of a microsurgeon. We can’t just be good, we have to be great. And, we can’t be great without partnerships.”

Those remarks from Navy Admiral Michael S. Rodgers, Cybercomm's Commander.

His remarks were beamed in from cyberspace, of course.
