While most of the talk this year is about GDPR, which kicks in next year, a major new cybersecurity law in China is in place now. It went into effect June 1, 2017.

The law was proclaimed by the Chinese to be a landmark law that ensures data privacy for Chinese citizens. It certainly does restrict the data your company can transfer out of China, even if that data is only going to other parts of the business.

This video, by law firm Ropes & Gray, talks through the law in less than five minutes and includes updates on what is known and still unknown at this point.
