Was the USS John S. McCain hacked before it collided with an oil tanker last week?

The fact this is even a story headline says something about living in this day and age of the cloud, connectivity, and IoT.

For now, the narrative that a hack "might" have happened seems driven mainly by reporters asking about it. However, Navy Admiral John Richardson made clear with a recent tweet that it is something they will look at:

This lead to a lot of responses on Twitter, to him, about whether another country might have somehow hacked the ship.

This is the second collision in three months involving vessels in the Navy's 7th fleet.

Admiral Richardson says the investigation will follow a tight timeline to get answers as quickly as possible. "It will also include a review of how we run and certify our surface warfare, including tactical and navigational proficiency," he said.

SecureWorld will follow this story if any additional news develops on the cyber front.
